ESEM WebCon (Webconference) 2017
First call for paper
ESEM mission statement: Our aim is to improve education in Biomedical Engineering and related topics in Europe. Furthermore, we want to build bridges between countries and show students a European perspective.
 
ESEM WebCon is the place to present your current research (Masters and PhD projects) to an international community, get feedback, establish new contact and put yourself in the spotlight without the need for travel budgets.
ESEM WebCon 2017 will cover all topics related to Biomedical Engineering like Biosensors, Biomechanics, Implants, Medical Devices, Biomedical Materials.
The conference is open to all interested participants and free of charge. The conference will be live-streamed online. Discussions are possible. All you need for presenting or listening is a device with web connection.
Presenters are asked for submission of a research paper. All papers will be reviewed and, if accepted and presented, published in conference proceedings.
Important Dates:
Delivery of full paper (<2000 words): September 1st 2017 (Detailed instructions for submission will be given later.)
Acceptance and reviews: October 1st 2017
Corrections: November 1st 2017

Trauma biomechanics
According to the statistics in Lithuania, the number of registered traffic accidents decreased almost 6.5 times (9.8 in 1980 and 1.5 in 2013), however the number of injured remained almost the same – for a 100 thousand people there was 137.6 injured in 1980 and 134.6 in 2013 (www.lakd.lt). Injuries, related to traffic accidents can be of different outcomes – from mild to severe, when person becomes disabled permanently. Active person can sustain injuries during sport activities or in work placement.  Trauma biomechanics is important scientific field, which explores biomechanics of various injuries, i.e. what are trauma mechanisms and causes. This knowledge is important for design of safe transportation means, developing and designing safe training equipment and rehabilitation devices, assistive technologies for disabled. Research in trauma biomechanics requires broad knowledge and understanding in biomechanics, mechanics and application of different technologies (computer simulation and experiments). Students will understand importance of various technologies and approaches, will obtain better understanding of general biomechanics principles and their application.
 
PD Dr. Kai-Uwe Schmitt is affiliated with the Department of Health Science and Technology at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zurich) and member of the executive board at AGU Zurich (Working Group on Accident Mechanics). Trauma biomechanics in traffic and sports are the focus of his research and teaching activities. Additional functions include being a council member and secretary of the International Research Council on Biomechanics of Injury (IRCOBI) and member of the advisory board on traffic safety at the Swiss Federal Road Office.

Visited Ortho Baltic and KTU Laboratory of Biomechatronics in Kaunas

 
Today we visited Ortho Baltic (Baltic Orthoservice) in Kaunas - one of the largest orthopedic companies in Europe.
Ortho Baltic is one of the few Lithuanian companies engaged in researching and creating new products and technologies. Companies Technology and Innovation Center designed not only to support new orthopedic technical products, but also personalize the joints, head, spine and dental implants. Ortho Baltic is a place where is smart use of modern technologies.
 
 
The second object - KTU Laboratories of Biomechatronics. Dr. Aurelijus Domeika acquainted with the available technology, which is very skillfully complete and currently in the laboratory is the main software and hardware for human motion (MoCap) tracking with force platforms, inertia (IMU) systems, simulators, running tracks with touch coating, etc.

Trips of practical biomechanics started today

On this Monday, our future biomechanics began a study tour through the practice of Lithuanian companies related to medical equipment, biomechanics, providing rehabilitation services, etc.

Today we visited Technical Assistance Center for the disabled - Thank them!

Department of Biomechanics has joined a virtual organization ESEM (www.esem.eu). ESEM is a non-profit foundation which focuses on the education in the field of biomedical engineering in Europe. ESEM stands for: "Educating Students in Engineering and Medicine". 
And this organization invites undergraduate/graduate students in biomedical/biomechanical engineering to participate in 1st web-conference to present their research within the field of biomechanics, biomedical engineering. More information on the conference website - http://esem.eu/web-conf-1/

Department of Biomechanics celebrates 20 years anniversary in 2016. All greetings and cooperation proposals are accepted by e-mail day and night, handshakes and gifts – during working hours or upon agreement ;-)
On this occasion, the 11th International Conference BIOMDLORE 2016, which will be held in Druskininkai on 20-22 of October, will be devoted to this anniversary besides the presentations and discussions.
